Top 5 Best Podcasts

Podcasts are my go to for plane rides and road trips. They make the time pass so fast and you’re usually a lot smarter whenever you arrive at your destination 😉 If you love learning interesting things or hearing amazing stories, you have to listen to podcasts.

Beautiful Anonymous

This is the most recent podcast I’ve found and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. Chris Gethard hosts this hour long podcast where he basically has a conversation with an anonymous person with a crazy life for an hour. He doesn’t hold back and asks all the questions you’re thinking in your head. Chris is nerdy, awkward, and hilarious in the best way possible.  Since the callers are completely anonymous, they are usually willing to share everything and it’s so entertaining and interesting. Some of my favorites I’ve listened to: a woman who is now sober after being addicted to heroin for 10 years, a woman who got sucked into a cult for 9 months, and a married couple who participate in the swinger lifestyle. It’s just really cool to hear these “beautiful stories from anonymous people.”

Startalk

This is one of the first podcasts I ever started listening to. I absolutely love Neil Degrasse Tyson because he is intelligent beyond measure but so funny, weird, and corny at the same time. My favorite segments of this podcast are called “Comsic Queries” where Neil answers questions from listeners. He covers all aspects of space and science, but the best episodes I’ve listened to are about time. I think he has 3 or 4 episodes about time and they blew my mind. This podcast will make you think. It’s also fun to listen to with other people. We always end up pausing it every few minutes to discuss our own theories of the universe. This podcast has led to some great conversations and I always learn so much when I listen.

My Favorite Murder

I don’t know if this one is everyone’s cup of tea but I have a fascination with true crime. I find serial killers really interesting and so do the two women who do this podcast. Each woman tells the story of a different murder each episode. They also suggest great documentaries and books. I have to admit the beginning of this podcast is usually the two women chatting and not super relevent so sometimes I skip ahead just to hear them talk about the murderers. I’ve heard the craziest stories on this podcast! Also one of the women has the most soothing voice I’ve ever heard in my life so that’s a plus.

How I Built This

This podcast makes time go by so fast. Each episode is an interview with a really successful entrepreneur all about how they started their company. Some of my favorites I’ve listened to are Instagram, Air Bnb, Patagonia, and Whole Foods. The most interesting thing about this podcast is that almost all of the entrepreneurs had no experience in the field they became successful in. They just figured out on their own which I think is so cool and inspiring.

Serial

Season 1 of Serial tells the story of Adnan Syed who was arrested for the murder of his then girlfriend Hae Min Lee…..15 years later. NPR Journalist Sarah Koening is determined to find out the truth about what happened. As she finds out more and spends time interviewing Adnan in jail, she goes back and forth about whether she believes him to be guilty or innocent which are exactly the feelings you will have. I have to warn you this podcast doesn’t have a conclusive ending, so you might be disappointed if you really want to know the truth. But did you really expect a case closed ending from a crime that took place 15 years prior? I can barely remember what I ate for dinner yesterday 😉 I haven’t listened to season 2 but season 1 was great.
